Local Issues

Thanks to all the Klickitat Democrats who attended the County Convention yesterday in Lyle. We had a nice big room at the Lyle Activity Center that was perfect for our group, with attendees from Bingen, White Salmon, N. Fruit Valley, Mt. Brook, Lyle, Pine Forest, and Goldendale 1 precincts. The 14th LD Sub Caucus elected five delegates and two alternates to the Third Congressional District Caucus on May 20 and the State Convention in Seattle, June 1-3. Congratulations to our delegates Lorrie DeKay, LeRoy Schoot, Rosemary Hoyt, Tracy Miles, and Ann Stephenson, and our alternates Shelley Baxter and Janet Holen. We will have great representation from across the county at the next level. County Chair Lorrie DeKay announced that she will be running for a National Delegate slot at the Congressional District Caucus.

Platform and Resolutions Chair Pat Arnold steered the way through the planks of the platform, and three resolutions, concerning National Guard deployment, Mineral Mining Act reform, and Arbitration Fairness were passed. Links follow.

County Democrats will be meeting on Sunday, April 29th at the Lyle Activity Center, corner of 3rd and Klickitat Sts in Lyle. Doors open at noon for registration.  The meeting will be called to order at 12:45 pm. Delegates from the recent precinct caucuses will elect 5 delegates and 2 alternates to the Congressional District Caucus May 20 and the State Convention June 1-3 in Seattle. All candidates for delegate must register. You do not need to have been elected precinct delegate to run for delegate to the next level. The meeting agenda is available here:

Following delegate selection, all Klickitat Democrats are welcome to participate in discussion of platform and resolutions. Several resolutions have been submitted to Platform and Resolution Committee Chair Pat Arnold. Please submit resolutions before the Convention, if possible, via email to info@klickitatdemocrats.org.

We will have food and drinks, signs, bumperstickers, pins, and candidate information. Please join us! If you have any questions, contact Lorrie DeKay at chair@klickitatdemocrats.org.

Do you have a ‘burning issue’? Something that you would like to address at the precinct caucuses and/or County Convention? Think about writing a resolution!

Resolutions are a way for the Washington State Democrats to state our positions on specific issues. Resolutions are submitted by local party organizations and caucuses of the Washington State Democratic Central Committee (WSDCC). They are passed at WSDCC Meetings, and at Democratic State Conventions, which are held in even-numbered years.

For an idea of what a resolution looks like, check the Resolution page on the Washington Democrats website: resolutions passed at the last WSDCC meeting in January are listed here. Resolutions brought to the April 15th precinct caucuses will be presented at the County Convention on April 29th. Those adopted will be forwarded to the State Convention Resolutions Committee.
